Possess a vessel, descend in the elevator, gather useful resources or process furniture for gold, secure the extraction, and spend the haul on the Outpost. A broken vessel releases its Living Spark, but a full crew loss costs everything that was not already secured.

Follow the quest log through Biggie’s maintenance tasks, Spark inspection, the first Deep Layers extraction, Quill’s Ancient Facility records, the rescue and second-floor key arc, Tink’s room tasks and the Corrupted Elite objective. Finish each return conversation before starting the next milestone.

Complete the opening Outpost tasks, Quill’s story work and the rescue/key objectives in the quest log. Return to the giver after each step; the second-floor door opens through the completed quest chain. Once inside, Tink, room upgrades and the repair/enchantment machine become available.

A destroyed vessel is not revived. Its Living Spark escapes and must possess another valid vessel before fading. The official FAQ confirms this recovery loop; if the whole crew loses every controlled vessel, unsecured run loot is lost.

Corrupted enemies react to sound, movement and nearby threats. Keep noise low, preserve an exit route and fight only when a threat blocks the objective. Learn each enemy by its movement and attack pattern, then use distance, cover or fire as the encounter requires.

There is no single best weapon for every run. Use a sword for controlled melee, a hammer for combat plus demolition, a mallet for early furniture breaking, and a firearm when a dangerous target must be stopped at range. Solo players should keep a ranged emergency option whenever ammunition allows.

The repair and enchanting machine is on the second Outpost floor. Bring an eligible damaged item, interact with the machine and read the displayed price before paying. Budget 100 gold for a full repair, but follow the amount shown in your game because costs can change after an update.

Treat each symbol as an exit blocker, hazard, utility room or reward modifier. The fuse blocks extraction until replaced; the eye signals darkness; the bear trap adds floor traps; map and press add utility rooms. For skull, keyhole and question-cube runs, prepare the exit before chasing optional rewards.

When the fuse symbol appears, search chests and lockers for a bulb-shaped replacement, carry it back in hand and interact with the empty elevator fuse slot. Keep at least 40 coins available for extraction and follow the amount displayed by the elevator if it differs.

Burn Rot with a flame-capable vessel attack or an activated oil lantern broken directly on the infected surface. Move teammates and valuable objects away, ignite from a safe retreat path and wait until the whole patch is gone before crossing.

Patch 1.09, released August 28, 2026, is the latest available build. It improves Grinder navigation, fixes the Vibe Modulator, changes resting recovery to percentage-based values and resolves several clipping and saved-item issues.

Floor 3 is not part of the normal launch progression as of September 2, 2026. The official roadmap says the October 2026 Halloween Update is planned to open the third Outpost floor and add a new questline, but it gives no exact day or unlock steps.

GRAIN ROT released on August 7, 2026 as a paid full release for Windows PC through Steam. It did not launch as Early Access, and the official developer page and Steam store agree on the date and platform.

The U.S. Steam list price was $9.99 on September 2, 2026. The $8.99 launch-week offer has ended. Open the Steam store to see your regional price, taxes and any active promotion.

A pre-release Steam demo offered a smaller set of constructs, biomes, enemies, Outpost rooms and modifiers. The main Steam store does not currently offer a separate demo download as of September 2, 2026. If you still have a demo or playtest save, the official FAQ recommends starting the full game fresh because progression changed.

GRAIN ROT supports solo play and online co-op. The official FAQ says it is balanced around roughly four survivors but does not publish a fixed hard cap; hosts choose the lobby maximum their setup can handle, and every survivor needs a copy of the game.

No Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One version has been announced as of September 2, 2026. GRAIN ROT is currently available for Windows PC through Steam; gamepad support on PC does not mean an Xbox or Game Pass version exists.

No PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 version has been announced as of September 2, 2026. GRAIN ROT is currently available for Windows PC through Steam; controller support and SteamOS compatibility do not mean a PlayStation version exists.

GRAIN ROT does not offer an official SDK or Steam Workshop integration as of September 2, 2026. Third-party files are unsupported: use only a traceable author and current-version instructions, scan downloads, back up saves and remove the mod before reporting a base-game bug.
