Current patch and roadmap
Patch notes are shipped facts; roadmap months are flexible planning windows.

Patch 1.09 on August 28
The compass can now be recalibrated to point toward the Deep Layer Grinder. That change makes the item more useful in shifting layouts without turning it into a complete map. The patch also fixed the Vibe Modulator’s incorrect scrap value and improved its visual-effect performance.
Health and stamina restored by resting on constructs became percentage-based. Additional fixes addressed clipping through walls with chairs and items saved on uncontrolled characters floating in the air. These are official notes, not inferred behavior.
Patch 1.08 added content and protection
The August 26 patch added Boing, a new small vessel, and seven buildable constructs: three common, one rare, one epic and two legendary. Small vessels gained the ability to carry one item. A Vibe Modulator also offered another route for room leveling.
Multiplayer changes included optional grief protection, stronger password-server security, a search filter and persistent bans. The patch fixed multiple item, collision, keybind, network and Wailer behaviors. That makes some launch-week tips outdated.
September Deep Layers plan
The August 12 roadmap planned the first major post-launch content update for September. The developer said it would add one biome and several enemies. No exact release day was included in that post.
Do not import an exact time from a rumor, video schedule or storefront database. When it ships, replace the plan with the patch version and complete feature list.
October Halloween plan
The larger Halloween Update is planned to open the third Outpost floor, introduce a new questline and add seasonal visual changes. Those are the confirmed headline items. The developer promised more detail closer to release.
October is a flexible window, not a guaranteed date. The roadmap explicitly says plans can update while the two-person team responds to feedback.
Why freshness matters across the wiki
Updates change more than a patch-notes page. A durability display fix affects repair guidance, a Wailer change affects enemy tactics, public lobbies affect multiplayer and Floor 3 affects progression intent.
Dynamic player counts and store reviews are kept out of the patch answer unless they explain adoption. This prevents a current update page from becoming a scrapbook of unrelated numbers.
How to update and troubleshoot the build
Steam normally installs updates automatically. If the version appears old, finish pending downloads and verify the game files through the Steam properties for the installation. Do not overwrite the game with third-party executables.
Back up important saves before major content changes and reproduce a bug on the current version. The official FAQ directs bug reports and technical tickets to Discord. Include the patch, lobby role and exact last action.
How to read patch notes without losing context
Start with the patch number and publication date, then separate shipped fixes from future plans. Patch 1.09 is a released build with named changes to compass recalibration, Vibe Modulator value, construct recovery and saved-item behavior. The September and October roadmap entries are planned content windows, not hidden features in that patch.
For a durability fix, inspect one eligible item; for a lobby change, confirm the available privacy controls; for progression, use a full-release save and read the active objective.

Floor 3 is not part of the normal launch progression as of September 2, 2026. The official roadmap says the October 2026 Halloween Update is planned to open the third Outpost floor and add a new questline, but it gives no exact day or unlock steps.
Enemies & the CorruptedCorrupted enemies react to sound, movement and nearby threats. Keep noise low, preserve an exit route and fight only when a threat blocks the objective. Learn each enemy by its movement and attack pattern, then use distance, cover or fire as the encounter requires.
Player Count & LobbiesGRAIN ROT supports solo play and online co-op. The official FAQ says it is balanced around roughly four survivors but does not publish a fixed hard cap; hosts choose the lobby maximum their setup can handle, and every survivor needs a copy of the game.
Second FloorComplete the opening Outpost tasks, Quill’s story work and the rescue/key objectives in the quest log. Return to the giver after each step; the second-floor door opens through the completed quest chain. Once inside, Tink, room upgrades and the repair/enchantment machine become available.
