GRAIN ROT: How to Replace the Elevator Fuse
A Broken Fuse run is an extraction-planning problem, not a reason to wander the Deep Layers until the crew is already in trouble.
Recognize the problem before leaving the elevator
The Broken Fuse symbol tells the crew that extraction has an additional condition. Confirm the damaged slot and make the fuse part of the first search pass. Waiting until every carrier is loaded gives the Corrupted more time to turn a simple container search into a retreat under pressure.
Choose a route caller and keep the elevator direction clear in voice chat. The fuse carrier should not be the only player who remembers the way home. In solo play, mark the route mentally and shorten optional exploration until the exit works.
Search procedural containers, not a fixed room
A Steam discussion reports working fuses in chests and lockers around the generated level. That is a container rule, not a guaranteed coordinate. Guides that promise one room for every run misunderstand the procedural layout.
Open containers systematically along connected routes and avoid looping through already-cleared rooms. If the crew splits, call out which branches are complete. The objective is to reduce duplicated noise and time while keeping players close enough to recover a broken vessel.
Install the fuse in the elevator slot
Return with the working fuse held and interact with the broken slot. Verify the on-screen prompt rather than dropping the fuse loose near the panel.
If the slot does not accept the item, confirm that it is a working fuse and not a zero-durability or visually similar object. The developer has not published a complete fuse-item table. Keep the item and retest the interaction before assuming the run is impossible.
The fuse does not replace the normal payment
The quoted amount was 40 coins in the observed build. Treat that number as dated because balance can change and the live machine is authoritative.
A crew that finds the fuse but spends or misses the required payment can still be unable to leave. Reserve the exit cost before processing optional value. Solve both conditions, then load the haul and decide whether there is time for one last branch.
Check the patch if coins or fuses cannot be picked up
Patch 1.01 fixed cases where players could not pick up coins or the fuse in some boxes, and patch 1.02 repeated the fix. A player on an old build may see the correct object and still fail to interact with it. Update through Steam before abandoning the run as a design problem.
If a current version still reproduces the issue, capture the modifier, container, item and lobby role. The official FAQ sends bug reports and technical tickets to the official Discord.
Extract without giving the route back to the Corrupted
Installing the fuse is not the end of the danger. Processing, payment and movement can create noise while the crew is grouped around one exit. Bring the haul in stages and keep one player watching the approach instead of stacking every body in the doorway.
Leave once the run has met its objective and the exit is ready. A working fuse is valuable because it converts uncertainty into a choice. Do not turn that advantage into another total loss by reopening the entire floor.

Treat each symbol as an exit blocker, hazard, utility room or reward modifier. The fuse blocks extraction until replaced; the eye signals darkness; the bear trap adds floor traps; map and press add utility rooms. For skull, keyhole and question-cube runs, prepare the exit before chasing optional rewards.
Beginner GuidePossess a vessel, descend in the elevator, gather useful resources or process furniture for gold, secure the extraction, and spend the haul on the Outpost. A broken vessel releases its Living Spark, but a full crew loss costs everything that was not already secured.
Latest UpdatePatch 1.09, released August 28, 2026, is the latest available build. It improves Grinder navigation, fixes the Vibe Modulator, changes resting recovery to percentage-based values and resolves several clipping and saved-item issues.
Enemies & the CorruptedCorrupted enemies react to sound, movement and nearby threats. Keep noise low, preserve an exit route and fight only when a threat blocks the objective. Learn each enemy by its movement and attack pattern, then use distance, cover or fire as the encounter requires.
