GRAIN ROT: How to Repair Weapons

Use this grain rot how to repair weapons guide for a direct answer, practical steps and current troubleshooting.

Quick answer: The repair and enchanting machine is on the second Outpost floor. Bring an eligible damaged item, interact with the machine and read the displayed price before paying. Budget 100 gold for a full repair, but follow the amount shown in your game because costs can change after an update.
Current note: The machine decides which items it accepts and shows the current price before payment.

Where to repair equipment

The repair system does not appear as an early construct in the build menu. Its device is on the second Outpost floor, so a missing repair option usually means the required progression is not complete.

If the device is not present, finish the active Outpost objectives, return to each quest giver and make sure the save belongs to the full release before troubleshooting the item itself.

The safest repair sequence

Bring the damaged item to the second-floor device, make sure the machine accepts it and read the displayed cost before committing. Budget 100 gold for a full repair, but follow the amount shown on screen if it differs.

Do not promise that every consumable, tool or special item can be repaired. Eligibility can differ from ordinary weapon durability, and some devices may reroll or modify an effect instead of restoring ammunition in the way a player expects. Read the prompt attached to the actual item.

Repair, ammo and rerolls are different questions

Staple-gun ammunition and hammer durability are separate systems. The repair machine restores eligible equipment durability; it does not automatically refill ammunition or replace every special effect.

If an item has a special effect the player wants to preserve, verify the device description before use. There is not enough official documentation to promise that every effect remains unchanged.

Rule out a client display bug

Patch 1.08 fixed a bug where clients could see the wrong durability values on items. In a multiplayer session, an incorrect display can make a valid repair look unsuccessful or make a nearly broken item look safe. Compare the host and client state after updating to the current patch.

Restarting into the same outdated build will not resolve a fixed replication issue. Confirm the patch number and allow Steam to finish the update before retesting. If the problem remains, the official Discord FAQ directs technical issues to the support-ticket route.

Why an old save can change the diagnosis

The official launch FAQ recommends a new save because quests, balance and progression changed from the demo and playtest. An old save that loads does not guarantee that every Outpost trigger migrated correctly. Test the same progression on a fresh save before calling the second-floor device absent for everyone.

Keep a backup before experimenting with local save files. Patch 1.08 improved behavior around renamed and copied save slots, but that does not turn every manual edit into a supported workflow. The guide does not recommend downloading replacement saves.

Repair limits

The machine decides whether an item can be repaired and shows the current price before payment. Special effects, ammunition and durability are separate values, so read the complete result before committing.

Major updates can add rooms, devices or new item classes.
